181 – Agatucci’s

Aggatucci’s.  I think you all know where it’s located.

Historic Peoria:

In 1926, Jim Agatucci opened a small grocery store at 2607 N. University, which at that time was a gravel road. It consisted of only a small room that is now the space behind the bar and extended out about fifteen feet to the first small wall close to the kitchen. Jim continued to run the store until President Roosevelt repealed prohibition in 1933, when he applied for a liquor license.

The City granted Agatucci’s its license shortly after the downtown drinking establishments, resulting in their receipt of license number 13. To this day, Agatucci’s still has number 13, making it the holder of the oldest liquor license in Peoria under the same name.
