233 – Lady Rapunzel, the Prince, and the Witch

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair

Morgan Elser, a 2007 Artist in Residence at the Prairie Center of the Arts, 1506 SW Washington, created Lady Rapunzel, the Prince, and the Witch.

I encourage everyone to read the March/April edition of Art & Society Magazine to learn about a hidden jewel of a program which is the Prairie Center of the Arts, located in the old Peoria Cordage building (NTPL #97).

We drove by this thing on Washington St. the other day and it got a collective shake-of-the-head what-is-that-thing from all of us.

Yeah – so WHAT IS THAT THING?

Weirdly appropriate that this would come from O’Brien…. LOL

I’d like to know why the wicked witch of the west is there. Was she in the story of Rapunzel too?

  4. Gary Says:

Somebody has to hold the Rapunzel sign after all.

There is a “witch”, Dame Gothel, in the story but her skin color can vary with the tale and the teller.

Isn’t this on Adams St.? Maybe it is Washington St. I haven’t lived in Peoria for a long time and it’s been a while since I’ve been back. But, I too, thought this was bizarre when I saw it back in March. The bldg. signage suggests there is some art center there, but I have never heard of it and there aren’t other visible signs that that is the case. Anyway, the bldg. is across the street from what used to be the City of Peoria garage where my dad worked as a mechanic while I was growing up. Weird.
