225 – Peoria Public Library, Downtown Branch

Do not back into this sign.

I wonder if the voter approved 35 Million Dollar Library upgrades include new parking lot signage? As does Gary, I also wonder why you can’t back into a parking spot? Seems sorta silly to me.

Is this th only public place in Peoria that requires head in parking?
I’ve been ticketted there for the offense. New to Peoria. Dazzled by the lights, skyscrapers, hustle and bustle. Eager to visit what I consider the best barometer of a city – the library.
I backed into the spot, not seeing the sign since I was facing the wrong way. Funny thing tho – I could not have got into the spot front first without going against the flow of cars in the lot.

The parking is tight down there, to be sure. I drive a pick-up and it’s tough to get in and out. I usually end up parking at the far end, which is where I snapped this pic, so I can be assured enough room to back out with rear-ending someone.

I know more than one person who has bumped a wall or a pole backing out of a spot at the library after an evening downtown.

The sign is there because many people back in to the parking meters there. Don’t underestimate the stupidity of people in downtown Peoria. That sign is to prevent people from being on par with Cool Hand Luke.
