218 – Abandoned Mystery Shack

The Love Shack

Katney: “There are a couple of buildings back in the woods off of Rt 29 owned by the park district – if I remember right this is the smaller one and it is pretty scary inside.”

I didn’t look inside.  As Katney said, it looked pretty scary inside and I wasn’t about to find out what was in there!  If someone would like to go down and check it out for themselves, it’s on the south side of the barn (NTPL#219) located off of SanKoty and Galena Rd.

Is this what passes as a landmark? I never thought Peoria was quite that sad.

“Any building, structure, or place that has a special character, special historic interest, and/or special aesthetic interest, or value, as part of the development, heritage, or cultural characteristics of a nation, state, city, or town.”

Based on this definition, yea, I’d say it does pass. And the fact that you believed Peoria didn’t have a building that looked like this makes it even more special.

I used to live @ 6206 Galena Rd between the years of 86-91 and the barn where the man hung himself was on that property. I was a teenager then and the barn was mainly used as a hangout for underage drinkers (me and my older brother) and the kids from the Longshore subdivision. The barn was always kind of creepy but I think when the property was vacated it became alot worse.
