216 – White Cap Drifters Boat Club

A view from the windshield.

It’s a view from a windshield because after driving past the 12th “no trespassing” sign, I didn’t really feel like getting out of the truck to take more pics. Besides, all I was trying to do was turn around without getting stuck in a mud road on a rainy day.

I had not heard of this place until last week, but according to their outdated website, they’ve been around since 1959.

Reminds me of a song…

I know where this is, won’t tell, but would like to know the history of this particular building and the rest of the area as well.

As with the last few, I’m completely clueless.

It’s on River Road or whatever it is called in Rome. Cool place to see Eagles in the winter.

    *STUMPED JOSH HARRIS ALERT*

Sctobrien, I wouldn’t doubt you’re the only person besides me that knows where this is.

Well Damn! I still guess it’s on the river. And the picture is taken IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!

    Isn’t that on Sankoty Ln?

im going to guess 6724 N. Some-Road-By-The-River in Peoria?

6700 would put it just below Hawley Hills area in Peoria…like Vonster said, around Sankoty Ln

I was there once a long time ago. I checked the overhead at peoriagis.com and confirmed it. Funny how you remember stuff like that.

DOH – I would have gotten this one, but hadn’t checked in for a few weeks. My family was a member of The Whitecap Drifters when I was a kid, and I still have permission to use the boat ramp for free access to the river. Is still an active club, but is small and private – you have to know a member to get in. It isn’t the IVY club, but dues are cheap and they know to have a good time.

I am a member of the Old Bridge Yacht Club in No. Ft. Myers Florida. I have taken on the project of identifying burgees given to our club over the years. The burgee I have appears to be one of the first received by the club back in the 50’s. The burgee consists of red, white and blue sections. There is a white star in the blue section and a blue star in the white section. What was the purpose of the club? Looks like it was established in in 1959, correct? Is it still functioning? Is it located in Peoria? Appreciate any information you can provide. Thanks

Bill, read the comment just before yours. It appears to still be an active club.
