207 – Glen Oak Park Baseball Field
If you build it, who will come?
I’ll agree with Billy that this is a cool diamond, and it is also my understanding that this one will survive the Zoo expansion, but… [editorial coming]… who cares? I have yet to see, in all my years of visiting Glen Oak Park, a single person playing baseball, or even catch, on either of the two Glen Oak ballfields. So I ask, what’s the big deal and why the outcry from the anti-Zoo Expansion activists over losing one of two unused ballfields?

This is a cool diamond. How many bleachers are there that enjoy nearly complete canopy from trees? This is the south field, and I do believe this is the one that will surve the destruction due to the zoo expansion.
I’m sure Karrie Alms has the scoop.

*I* have played ball there. It was at a picnic outing. Dislocated my knee in the process. I’ll go with 3+ years ago.

PI: Dad and I used to watch Sunday Morning League games sitting on these very same bleachers. High School Baseball games are played here. Jim Thome and Joe Girardi no doubt have “fond” memories of this field.

I wish the park district would get ALL of their ball fields at ALL of their parks up to nice playing condition and try to get a tournament to come to town. That would be nice for the city.
