155 – Shuttered Restaurant at the corner of Illinois State Routes 40 and 90

If you take Route 90 east, you’ll pass Arrowhead Country Club on the way to Chillicothe. Just past this intersection heading North on Route 40 (formerly 88) is the town of Edelstein, home of the Historic Hub Ballroom.

Congratulations to “Bean Counter” for losing his NTPL virginity.

I personally like this photo.  The only thing missing is some tumbleweed blowing across the gravel lot…

I think I might finally know one. I don’t remeber what the name on the sign says but it is on route 40 around where it intersects with 91.

And the food was good when open…..

It’s been many things throughout the years, but for the life of me I can’t think of any of them. The last incarnation looked like they were going after the Harley crowd.

    Never ate there.

If this is where I’m thinking the most recent name I think was ‘The Back 40′. I think before they change the route to ‘40′ it used to have a different name.

    Used to have good pankcakes….

The Back 40. I always thought that was a funny name.

Due to site upgrades, there won’t be a new post until Wednesday.

This was known as the “The Back 40″ and was open until just a few years ago. Previous names related to 88, and I think at one time it was a 700 club.

Hmm.. Now both this and the Hub Ballroom has been ruined.

This was the 88 Club forever. I remember going there in the early 60’s as a child. When the waitress asked if anyone would like a cocktail, my 4 year old brother spoke up in his most grownup voice and said, “yes, I would like a fruit cocktail, please.” Back in the day it was a popular supper club with live piano music and later live bands. It was owned and operated in the late 70’s and into the 80’s by Dorothy and Harley Brosman who added an outdoor beer garden.
