79 – Richland Bottoms, East Peoria

All hail the Vonster! “It’s in Richland bottoms in East Peoria”

It appears to be some kind of steam pipe crossing over a small creek or drainage ditch, on Sanford Street.

I don’t know what or where the heck this is, but does it mean you are back from your intermission? Or just teasing us a bit?

  2. namethispeorialandmark Says:

Intermission’s over. It was getting too much for me- had to take a breather.

Hint on this one: It’s not my back yard.

  3. Josh Harris Says:

I’ll take a stab since no one else will. Some kind of pipeline with a vent pipe out in the country. I don’t get the “walkway” with the cattle fencing on both sides. Am I anywhere close?

  4. JW Says:

    No, no, you’re all wrong.

It’s the coal-fueled USS Pottstown submarine, here at it’s new museum location at Aspen Hills.

(Actually, there is something similar to this on North St, just south of McClure. Or, there used to be back in the good old days.)

It’s actually in a pretty densely populated area. Did I mention that it could be in any town with the word “Peoria” in it?

  6. mazr Says:

    Peoria Heights

  7. Cory Says:

THAT is a museum??? Looks more like a backyard in the South End.

  8. sctobrien Says:

I think it is the hot gas regulator belonging to Vonster’s rear end.

  9. JW Says:

    “densely populated”…must be West Peoria!

  10. Vonster Says:

It’s in Richland bottoms in East Peoria. Old CAT steam pipes?

    Scotty, GFY.

  11. Josh Harris Says:

    Wow, this is good.

A commenter suggested I visit “The Bottoms” – so I did. The next time, I’ll have to remember to bring some Springsteen CDs, because that’s all I could think about. I’m sure that makes sense to some of you.

  13. Cory Says:

Wow, I didn’t think you would actually go. Pretty depressing, isn’t it?

  14. PeoriaIllinoisan Says:

    It’s a whole ‘nother world.
