It looks like an observatory dome, but Northmoor is more white on the top, I think. I don’t know of any other local observatories.

Ok, I’ll take a stab at it.
Resembles the brick kiln that is somewhere just north of I-74, near Sheridan Road and Ellis Street. It’s been a zillion years since I’ve seen what I’m thinking of, and exactly where it is.

A garage in the south end off of Western at the bottom of the hill. If the house isn’t on Western it’s on Martin or Butler.

Josh,
Do you have any idea about the story behind this structure?

It was an amateur astronomer. I heard he made the telescope himself. He shaped the lenses by hand and put the telescope in the building in back. It was fully operational in the 70’s.
The house in front is on Western. As more lights got in the area it had less use.

How cool is this? I had absolutely no clue. This is why I love this site.
PI, when are you making your Channel 59 debut?

M, Are you kidding me!?!
I keep waiting for the call, but it hasn’t come yet…
Sctobrien took this pic, but I agree, this is a photo that says why I love this site, and hopefully (if I get off my ass) we’ll get more good stuff like this. I’m always looking for contributors.

Funny thing is, even tho this isn’t the brick kiln, I’ve been to this place, on the outside, long time ago.
If you put up a picture of Northwoods Mall, I’m sure I will identify it as the Scottish Rite Cathedral. And, in my mind, I’d be right!
