The old Burger King on Sterling gets my vote in the category of “best landscaped casualty of Upgrade-74″
Thank You, John.

The “old empty” Burger King on North Sterling across from NOrthwoods Mall and in front of Westlake. I would assume on of the reasons it closed is that you can no longer turn left from northbound Sterling onto West Lake to access the building from the south.

All but one BK was closed in the Peoria area (the one on North Knoxville is still open). The BK on South Knoxville as well as the one by Super Walmart in East Peoria closed a while ago. I heard, but not sure, that those were all under the same owner and the breakfast sales were low.

This closed down BK is the goofiest thing.
But only when you consider the closed down
Denny’s next to it. And the muffler place
behind it!!!
I remember back in the
olden days when all 3 businesses were fully
operational — and NEW! Now they’re just
embarrassing eyesores. I now live on the West
Coast and return to visit family at least once
a year. Cannot believe the buildings are still
standing. I was sure on this trip, with I-74
work at that intersection all but done, that
they’d both have been reduced to rubble. And,
maybe, other businesses would be up in their place.
Is there one owner of the 3 footprints
who is waiting for really big $$ to sell?

I live right by this abandoned burger king. I can vouch that it was closed long before the traffic pattern was changed to accomodate the upgrade 74 layout. I do believe the Denny’s was closed because of the construction. I think that the Denny’s was originally slated to be torn down to make room for westbound entrance ramp before the intersection was reconfigured. Now, not only are the two restaurant buildings vacant, but also the 14 bay Firestone building directly across the street from them appears to be vacant as well not to mention the BRAND NEW Starbucks building across Westlake. I wish the BK would open back up. I hate driving halfway across town to score a whopper!!
