35 – Shade-Lohman Bridge

The Shade-Lohman Bridge, also known as the I-474 bridge, opened in 1972. Opened in 1978 because I-474 wasn’t finished yet.

I can’t say how this picture was taken without any traffic, since I must admit that I borrowed it without permission from Tom Atwell. There wasn’t an email link, so I hope he doesn’t mind.

The Bob Michel Bridge; sometimes referred to in my family as the “Walmart Bridge.” I took this picture on water street near Kellehers.

Sctobrien and Kevin were correct, even though they doubted themselves…

“Steve” is correct. This is the Rock Island Trail bike and walking path, currently stretching 26 miles from Alta to Toulon, and soon to be greatly expanded (note landmark #30 tie-in)

This trail is laid on the original Peoria & Rock Island Railroad Company’s lines, built in the late 1870’s, but abandoned in the 1950’s. It is currently managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
